About Springboard:
SPRINGBOARD is CBC's adult discipleship course to develop a good foundation for Calvarians to grow in their Christian faith, by:
grounding themselves in a systematic understanding of core doctrines (the most important teachings and beliefs of Christianity)
nurture life-long spiritual habits of bible-reading and meditation and theological reflection
build spiritual friendships with a committed group of Calvarians over a period of time
This will be our first run since the pilot in 2022 and would love for fellow Calvarians to come and join us in this journey! This run, we are holding sessions on Sunday morning and breaking up the 20-sessions to two parts of 10-sessions each. Come on 16 February Sunday to find out more!

FAQs
-
This is a name that came out of a focus group we did when we reviewed the previous foundations modules! We hope that through this course, we can help Calvarians develop ‘coils’ or ‘springs’ that can springboard them to an equipped, healthy, growing disciple of Christ. :)
-
This course is developed in-house by Calvarians in the CE ministry, vetted and taught by seminary-trained church staff.
-
We will release the week’s readings on Sunday night via Google Classroom for your personal meditation and reflection from Monday to Friday (which will take about 10 minutes a day), according to the topic for the week.
During the in-person session, we will go through an overview of the past week’s readings, have some time for small group reflections and applications, time for any questions arising from the readings that week, a short preview of next week’s readings and prayer together.
Then by God’s grace, we will do this weekly until we finish Part 1, then Part 2 :)
-
We will be going through topics of theology according to the traditional systematic theology outline. Topics will include the Bible, God, Humanity, Christ, Holy Spirit, Salvation, Church and End Times.
-
No strict requirements, this course is not graded ;) But in essence, we are asking for participants who has a desire to learn and grow, and are willing to commit and participate as fully as possible!
It is also mainly for Calvarians 18 years and up as there will be a lot of adult self-directed learning throughout. But if you are younger and interested, let us know and we can see how it goes!
-
We are splitting up the course to 2 parts, 10 weeks each!
We are trying to give participants a full survey of theology systematically - while we cannot go deep into every subtopic, we hope to help participants have some handles (springs!) to springboard to further learning in those topics if they are interested to do so in the future.
Our earlier proposal was to spread it out across 2 years but feedback given was a once-off 20 weeks might be more doable. After our first pilot run, we are trying out an even shorter format (2 parts, 10 weeks each) which hopefully will be even more manageable for our busy Calvarians. Let us know your feedback about the format and how we can improve the next time!
-
Yes, while we are taking a hybrid approach in learning (we have an online component for readings on weekdays, and then we will meet in-person at the end of the week), the in-person interaction is where our learnings are really integrated, through the small-group reflections and discussions, and in-person teachings and FAQs.
In fact, the main feedback we had from our pilot run was that our participants wished we had more face-time!
-
Time commitment per week will be 10 minutes x 5 days (Mondays-Fridays) + 75 minutes over the weekend for our in-person sessions, either on Saturday or Sunday.
-
The course is free!
-
A big part of course will be made up of self-directed learning from the Bible, with supplementary teaching materials. You will also learn from fellow participants as you reflect and discuss through the week’s readings. There will also be a short teaching session (mainly facilitated by Angel, the CE ministry director in CBC), where we will hope to provide additional perspectives to help tie theological concepts together, and answer any other questions that might have arisen over the week.
-
Your learning and growth will be most effective if you can make at least 80% of the sessions. This is also because much of the learning will come from small group discussions (so we need you to be around to receive and give regularly to one another!).
The class schedules are available here, and we hope you can prioritise making the sessions for this season of learning together.
If, for a certain week, you are not able to make your default class day, you can have the option to make the alternate class (Saturday or Sunday) that week.
