My Befriending Journey

I am privileged to be in God’s plan. It once again reminded me of God’s timing, God’s plan, not mine.

My journey with befriendees started off with uncertainty because I don’t talk much. At the start, chats with my befriendee, Mr Soh were short and awkward. But God must have it all planned. I never thought watching TV together and laughing at the show could create conversations. Over time, we opened up to each other.

In August last year, Mr Soh shared that he has not visited his wife at the nursing home for several weeks as his legs felt weak. From then on, I accompanied him to visit Mrs Soh together during our befriending sessions.

In one session, Mrs Soh found out that Mr Soh had a surgery. She took a closer look at Mr Soh’s wound and placed her hand on Mr Soh’s cheek to show concern. It was such a touching moment and I shared in the joy whenever the couple meets.

However, Mr Soh’s health deteriorated very quickly. We had conversations about God and church before, but Mr Soh could not visit the church as he felt weak. Then, I felt prompted to ask if my pastor could visit him and Mr Soh readily welcomed the idea. That was how on my last visit, Mr Soh received Christ and 4 days later, he was called home by the Lord.

I am privileged to be in God’s plan. It once again reminded me of God’s timing, God’s plan, not mine. All I need is to trust and obey God. I encourage you to trust God and be a volunteer.
